Renolit Divides Healthcare Segment Into Independent Company, Initiates Two-Phase Transition in 2026

Plastmatch Global Digest 2025-12-08 14:23:51

Renolit, a global supplier of plastic films, sheets, and other polymer products, recently announced the spin-off of its healthcare business unit. The group stated that Renolit Healthcare will be established as an independent company in two phases starting in 2026, while still remaining part of the Renolit Group system.

Clearer business focus

Renolit stated that this strategic decision was made to drive the precise development of its two major business sectors. In the future, Renolit SE will focus on its core industrial business, while Renolit Healthcare will concentrate entirely on the medical and healthcare industry. The healthcare business segment primarily provides polymer-based materials and products for infusion, transfusion, dialysis systems, and biotechnology applications. The company, headquartered in Worms, Germany, pointed out that due to the differentiated characteristics in market, technology, and regulatory aspects, this separation is a logical step that will help both companies achieve more targeted growth.

Karsten Jänicke, CEO of Renolit, explained, "This decision brings clearer business direction and higher focus. Renolit SE can continue to precisely expand its core industrial markets, while Renolit Healthcare can establish itself as a specialized partner in the healthcare industry. This move will create dual growth potential."

The chairman of the supervisory board and co-owner of the company, Andreas Lang, added: "Renolit Healthcare is ready for independent development. It is crucial for us to adhere to the principles of continuity and stability as owners. Therefore, Renolit Healthcare will remain a part of the Renolit family, upholding all the core values and corporate culture that we, as a family business, stand for."

The two-stage transition will start next year.

A two-phase transition plan will be initiated in 2026 to prepare for the spin-off of the healthcare business: Renolit Healthcare will achieve independent operational management while legally remaining part of Renolit SE; by the end of 2027, Renolit Healthcare B.V. will complete the formal legal spin-off, with its headquarters located in the Netherlands, while Renolit SE will continue to have its headquarters in the Frankfurt area. During this transition period, the existing four-member executive board will be responsible for coordinating decisions related to both entities.

Thomas Sampers, the proposed CEO of Renolit Healthcare, stated that this is a significant move for a family-owned business with a 75-year history. He emphasized, "This split is an investment in the future — we are granting this successful business segment the autonomy to operate independently. We are ready to embark on this path of independent development together with our customers, partners, and employees."

The global layout continues to expand.

Last month, Renolit officially inaugurated and commenced operations at its new production facility in Yingde, China. The facility employs approximately 170 people and primarily manufactures films for the advertising industry, as well as flexible films specifically for car windows and blood bags.

In May 2025, the company held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new factory in Pune, India. Once operational, this factory will primarily produce geomembrane products for use in fields such as large pumped-storage power stations.

Furthermore, Renolit has committed to investing over 130 million euros to upgrade its production base in Germany. Renolit's CEO Jänicke emphasized in a recent blog post: "Global expansion and rooting in local markets are not mutually exclusive but complementary. As we expand our international business, we are simultaneously strengthening our production base in Europe — because the development of new markets can drive innovation, thereby ensuring our long-term competitiveness."

Renolit Group focuses on providing high-quality plastic films, sheets, and other polymer solutions, operating over 30 production sites and sales offices in more than 20 countries worldwide. In the 2024 fiscal year, the group announced annual sales of nearly 1.2 billion euros, with a total workforce of over 5,000 employees.
