India's iPhone production doubles: Foxconn expands capacity
On April 1, news reports indicated that the vast majority of iPhones worldwide are still produced in China, but Apple has been working for many years to diversify its supply chain.
Initially, Foxconn's factory in India only produced the iPhone SE. Now, it is capable of manufacturing the latest flagship models, indicating a continuous expansion of the product line at the India plant.
Latest reports show that India is actively promoting "Make in India" by providing tax incentives for imported components. Apple plans to transfer 25% of its iPhone production capacity to India by 2027.
To this end, Foxconn has built a new factory in Bangalore. According to informed sources, last year Foxconn's Indian plant assembled about 12 million iPhones. With the commencement of the Bangalore factory, this year's production target has been raised to 25-30 million units.
Three to four months ago, Foxconn began small-scale trial production, and the current focus is on improving quality control to ensure stability during mass production.
Analysts point out that the configuration of global supply chains is ultimately determined by costs and markets. The most significant cost advantage comes from scale, followed by investment amounts and material costs, and also depends on management. As a capital- and technology-intensive industry, components still see a substantial proportion of Apple's parts production based in China. No place in the world can承接大规模的转移 in the short term, and it is not easy for India to replicate China's manufacturing success in the short term.
