The story of MICHELIN ResiCare starts in 2008. At that time, David, a researcher in the field of adhesion with the Michelin group, identifies formalin and resorcinol substitution pathways in RFL (resorcinol formaldehyde latex) glues. After 10 years of R&D, a new resin dedicated to textile reinforcement in tires finally saw the light. In 2016, the first tests are conducted with the new technology. Convinced by the excellent results, Michelin wants to value the resin in tires and other applications. At that point, Quentin joins David on the adventure and together they set up MICHELIN ResiCare. With a strong expertise in adhesion, MICHELIN ResiCare continues developing resins for applications such as belts, plywood, insulation... MICHELIN ResiCare is also working on biosourcing some of its monomers. The entity currently employs more than 50 people, working together for a healthier industrial environment. Since 2018, more than 35 million tires have been manufactured with the new resin and its plug & play, high-performance and nontoxic* features. More than 40 patents have so far been deposited for MICHELIN ResiCare technology. * No substances that meet the SVHC criteria as defined by ECHA. MICHELIN ResiCare, part of Michelin Group, develops adhesive solutions with the purpose to create a sustainable and competitive industry in a safer environment. Thanks to its constant research and innovation, Michelin values its strong expertise in polymers and green chemistry by implementing new activities, beyond tires.
