Sumitomo Chemical Announces Organizational Restructuring, Dissolves Battery Materials Division
On March 3, Zhuan Su Shi Jie learned that Sumitomo Chemical announced on March 2 that it will implement the following organizational restructuring effective April 1, 2026.

Headquarter
To strengthen the collaboration of the company's R&D system and enhance the research function, Sumitomo Chemical has reorganized the Research Planning Coordination Department into two new departments.
Research Planning Department: Responsible for the planning and coordination of all company-wide technology and R&D activities.
Department of Enterprise Research Planning and Coordination: Responsible for the promotion and management of enterprise research topics.
2. Enterprise R&D Center
To optimize and strengthen the commercialization research of enterprise research topics and enhance basic technical levels, the company has merged the Institute of Environmental Health Science, the Institute of Advanced Materials Development, and the Institute of Biological Sciences into a new Institute of Advanced Basic Technology.
In addition, the enterprise research and development center will be renamed as the enterprise institute.
3. Information and Communications Technology & Mobile Solutions Division
Due to the company’s restructuring and integration of the lithium-ion secondary battery separator business into its Korean subsidiary SSLM, the Battery Materials Division will be dissolved.
