United Imaging's Brain-Computer Interface Makes A Big Move: Secures The Nation's First

Medical Device Home 2026-06-08 15:21:18

United Imaging has made significant moves in the brain-computer interface field, this time targeting the "first in the country."

It was reported that the Hybrid Operating Room Application Demonstration Center, led by Hubei Technology Investment Co., Ltd. and jointly established with United Imaging Group and Tongji Hospital affiliated to Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as “Tongji Hospital”), was officially unveiled and put into operation at Tongji Hospital’s Optics Valley Campus recently.

This project is not only the first fully domestic high-end hybrid operating room demonstration platform in Central China, but also the first intelligent integrated surgical platform in China specifically designed to support the full technical pathway of implantable brain-computer interfaces.

The development of a dedicated surgical platform will help establish standards for brain-computer interface surgery and address the shortcomings of traditional neurosurgery, which relies heavily on experience and is difficult to perform with precision or verify.

This is also inseparable from the comprehensive support of high-end intelligent equipment. The center is equipped with United Imaging Group’s fully self-developed uOR Cube Hybrid Operating Room System, featuring a smart bionic 10-axis DSA, an intraoperative water-cooled sliding-rail CT, dual first-class intelligent endoscopic and energy platforms, as well as a full suite of domestically produced high-end intelligent surgical equipment.

Achieved multiple intraoperative breakthroughs:

Intraoperative water-cooled sliding-rail CT enables intracranial imaging within tens of seconds. Paired with a dual-navigation system, it allows implantation, verification, and fine-tuning simultaneously, eliminating the passive situation of only finding out whether the placement is correct after implantation.

In minimally invasive surgery, the patient's true cortex is reconstructed through multimodal imaging fusion, and AR navigation is used to directly project the preset positions of the electrodes onto the surgical field, ensuring the precise placement of the electrode array in one attempt.

In interventional surgery, a 10-axis bionic DSA system combined with AI vascular path planning can guide electrodes through tortuous blood vessels like threading a needle.

According to Hu Junbo, President of Tongji Hospital, the center makes it possible to complete complex procedures that previously required multiple transfers and staged operations in a single setting at one time, increasing overall surgical efficiency by more than 50%. It completely addresses the pain points of “multiple surgeries, repeated anesthesia, and shuttling between hospitals,” enabling people in central China to enjoy world-class precise minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment services close to home.

United Imaging's positioning is precise, as the brain-computer interface industry is rapidly developing, and surgical platforms are key to the large-scale and standardized implementation of brain-computer interfaces in the future.
