35% PCR Recycled Material! Mondi's New FlowWrap Supports Wet Wipe Packaging for Closed-Loop Recycling

Mondi, a global leader in sustainable packaging and paper, has officially launched re/loop FlowWrap, a recycled product designed specifically for wet wipe packaging. It offers home and personal care manufacturers a recyclable solution that replaces traditional non-recyclable composite films. This all-polypropylene (PP), form-fill-seal, mono-material film contains 35% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content, helping major brands meet increasingly stringent sustainability regulatory requirements while maintaining production efficiency.

This new material addresses a major challenge in the industry: promoting the upgrade of wet wipe packaging to eco-friendly materials without altering chemical performance. According to the CEFLEX D4ACE recycling guidelines, re/loop FlowWrap is compatible with the polypropylene mechanical recycling system and can be produced on existing packaging production lines, allowing manufacturers to replace materials without the need for large-scale equipment modifications.

Mondi Consumer Flexibles Home and Personal Care Business Development Manager Alessandro D'Agostino said: “This product launch demonstrates that wet wipe packaging can move toward circularity without compromising performance. The product combines a recyclable formulation, PCR recycled content, and excellent processing adaptability, helping customers accelerate the upgrade to sustainable packaging while maintaining their existing production efficiency.”

The product launch comes at a critical juncture for industry policy. The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) stipulates that, from January 1, 2030, plastic packaging in this category must contain 35% post-consumer recycled plastic. Mondi re/loop FlowWrap can help companies achieve compliance while delivering the barrier protection required for baby care, beauty, and household wipes.

After multiple rounds of internal performance testing and on-site trial production with customers, re/loop FlowWrap has demonstrated performance on par with products made from virgin materials, with reliable sealing, stable barrier properties, and smooth machinability across all wet wipe categories. Third-party line trials conducted on IMA Ilapak equipment further confirmed the film’s excellent web handling on high-speed production lines, validating its feasibility for commercial-scale implementation.

From May 19 to 22 this year, at the INDEX exhibition, industry professionals observed the product’s mass-production operating conditions firsthand. Mondi, together with IMA Ilapak, conducted a live demonstration of re/loop FlowWrap on packaging equipment, vividly showcasing Mondi’s collaborative model of working with equipment partners and end customers to jointly advance new material development.
