A Serio Us Rival For The Aito M9 Has Arrived: The Nio ES9 Has Been Launched
On the evening of May 27, the NIO ES9 was officially launched, with a starting price of RMB 498,000. Under the BaaS battery subscription plan, the starting price can be as low as RMB 390,000, positioning it directly against the Aito M9 in the premium flagship SUV segment.
Coincidentally, the new Wenjie M9 was launched in Shenzhen on the same day. Huawei.Executive Director, Chairman of the Product Investment Committee, and Chairman of the Terminal BG Yu Chengdong stated: "This is the most formidable SUV on the market in the world, no exceptions."
As a pure electric executive flagship built on NIO's 11 years of technological accumulation, the ES9 enters the market with key features such as full-size space, 900V high-voltage architecture, Tianxing 48V fully active suspension, and the Jiuxiao Tianqing sound system. With over 40 industry-first technologies, it is expected to become a highly competitive player in the 500,000 yuan market segment, further diversifying the landscape of the high-end flagship SUV market.

As flagship SUVs in the 500,000-yuan price range, the NIO ES9 and the AITO M9 target overlapping high-end user groups. While highly similar in product positioning, they take different approaches in technical direction, driving experience, and the creation of a luxury atmosphere, each forming its own distinctive product identity.
In terms of dimensions, the ES9 measures 5,365 mm in length with a wheelbase of 3,250 mm, making it one of the larger all-electric SUVs currently available in the Chinese market. Its longer wheelbase provides a more spacious and comfortable interior. The cabin offers over 2.8 meters of longitudinal space, while the second row delivers up to 1.2 meters of legroom. Chassis and ride quality are the core highlights of the ES9. The new car is equipped with the world's only mass-produced Tianxing 48V integrated fully active suspension. Compared with traditional split systems it reduces connection piping by 95% and has a response time of less than 6 milliseconds, enabling active vibration suppression and preview-based shock filtering. NIO founder Li Bin said this suspension demonstrates a generation-leading level of technical sophistication in terms of comfort and driving feel.
The new vehicle is equipped with both steer-by-wire and rear-wheel steering, and its 5.4-meter turning radius makes this large vehicle more agile. Its in-house developed VSC vehicle body control system and multi-scenario terrain modes balance urban cruising with off-road capability on unpaved surfaces. The AITO M9, meanwhile, has achievedAutonomous judgment and control of the 800V fully active suspension, dual-valve continuously variable damping shock absorbers, and dual-chamber air suspension.

In terms of luxurious and comfortable configurations, the ES9 is meticulously designed around the executive experience. The flight zero-gravity seats feature a 17-layer comfort structure, equipped with 22-point deep massage and the industry's first mechanical foot massage. The world's first array-type LC intelligent privacy dimming side windows achieve a shading rate of 99.8%, balancing privacy and transparency. Dual 16-inch executive screens, an 8.8-liter smart refrigerator, and dual wing executive table panels create a complete mobile executive, reception, and office environment.
In terms of acoustics, it features a 47-speaker Jiuxiao Tianqing system, combined with advanced NVH quietness engineering to create an immersive auditory experience.
In terms of intelligence and safety, the NIO ES9 is equipped with the self-developed intelligent driving chip Shenji NX9031 and the SkyOS Tian Shu full vehicle operating system. It offers advantages such as high bandwidth, low latency, high computing power, heterogeneous hardware, cross-domain integration, flexible and continuous evolution, and high reliability.
The vehicle also boasts powerful on-device inference capabilities and all-weather perception, and is equipped with the NOMI Intelligence 4.0 in-car voice interaction system. With an added emotion engine, human–machine interaction becomes smarter and warmer.
In terms of intelligent driving, the new vehicle is equipped with NIO's Eagle Pilot Super Sensing System, featuring a total of 31 high-performance perception hardware units. It integrates NIO's World Model (NWM) to achieve point-to-point full-domain navigation assistance, and supports functions such as navigation-assisted battery swapping, intelligent offset parking, and intelligent safety assistance. This system has actively prevented or mitigated over 5.7 million accidents, demonstrating outstanding performance in complex road condition judgment, lane adaptability, and safety redundancy.

The launch of the NIO ES9 is not only the debut of a flagship model, but also marks a differentiated path in the high-end market through the combination of a native pure-electric platform and a battery-swapping ecosystem, together with the AITO M9 enriching the choices of domestically produced high-end new energy flagship vehicles.
The ES9’s most distinctive competitive edge comes from NIO’s mature battery-swap system. At present, NIO has more than 3,800 battery-swap stations nationwide and plans to add over 1,000 more energy replenishment sites within the year. Its seamless 3-minute battery swap effectively eases range anxiety for large all-electric models. Combined with a 900V high-voltage platform, a 102kWh battery, and a CLTC range of 620 km, the ES9 delivers a superior experience for long-distance travel and business scenarios.
