BASF Signs Memorandum Of Understanding With LEMON To Co-Develop New Apparel Material Solutions
October 16, 2025 -BASFA memorandum of understanding has been signed with LEMON Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "LEMON"), in which both parties will collaborate to utilize Freeflex® fibers made from BASF's Elastollan® thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) to jointly advance new apparel application solutions. As a leading producer of functional nanomembranes, LEMON plans to apply Freeflex to the production of its waterproof and windproof clothing. The memorandum also clarifies future opportunities for collaboration in technology development and business expansion between the two parties.

LEMON CEO Lee Jong-il stated, "Our collaboration with BASF allows us to expand the application range of electrospinning technology and provide high-performance nanofiber materials for global brands. By combining our expertise in nanomembrane development with BASF's materials innovation capabilities, we are committed to setting new industry benchmarks for functional textiles."
Freeflex is a high-performance material from BASF, specifically designed for the production of mesh-structured nanomembranes through electrospinning. It features excellent waterproof properties, good breathability, and a lightweight texture. Additionally, this material is designed for use in extreme environmental conditions, effectively maintaining comfort and durability.
Rohit Ghosh, Vice President of BASF and Head of Thermoplastic Polyurethane Business Management for the Asia-Pacific region of the Performance Materials Division, stated: "Freeflex demonstrates how material science provides crucial support for the future development of high-performance and sustainable apparel industry. We are very pleased to introduce advanced TPU fiber technology to the Korean apparel industry through our collaboration with LEMON."
In addition to its functional advantages, the Freeflex nanofiber membrane does not actively use per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) during the production process, making the product fully recyclable. This is a concrete practice of both parties' commitment to sustainable innovation.
