The wheel of fortune turns, and in September, the automotive industry turns to "Munich time," while the new energy vehicle sector turns to "BMW time."

The first mass-produced model of BMW’s new generation—the BMW iX3—will make its global debut on September 5 and will be unveiled at the Munich Motor Show three days later. According to accurate information obtained by Auto-First, the China-exclusive version will also meet consumers within the year and will begin domestic production in 2026.

As BMW’s most significant and groundbreaking product this year, the new-generation BMW iX3 has made tremendous advancements in design, technology, and user experience.

Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the BMW Group, stated that the New Class is the most forward-looking strategic project in the history of the BMW Group. BMW continues to reach new milestones, bringing the New Class strategy from vision to reality. The BMW way is to say what they mean and do what they say.

Since the official unveiling of the new generation X concept car last year, BMW has been building anticipation for the release of the production vehicle. In January this year, BMW premiered the new generation of the ultra-sensory intelligent cockpit at the North American CES. Subsequently, in April, the new generation driving pleasure concept car, which features the BMW Driving Super Brain, also made its official debut.

The new generation BMW iX3 is built on the all-new pure electric dedicated platform (NCAR). The car's design innovates while inheriting tradition, adopting an integrated new design language while continuing classic elements such as the kidney grille, angel eye headlights, and Hofmeister kink.

Zipse emphasized that innovative strength, pioneering spirit, and sheer driving pleasure are deeply embedded in the BMW brand’s DNA. With the new generation of models, customers will experience an unprecedented BMW sensation: more natural human-machine interaction, more avant-garde design, and more precise and reassuring driving dynamics.

It is worth mentioning that the new generation BMW iX3 China version, which is set to be released within the year, was designed with full consideration of Chinese consumers' aesthetic and functional needs from the outset. It has been meticulously tuned in terms of space and comfort, smart cockpit, and intelligent driving assistance to create a model tailored for Chinese users. It stands as an exemplar of "China-exclusive intelligence, China-exclusive driving control, and China-exclusive luxury."

For example, in terms of range, the new generation of the China-made BMW iX3 adopts the sixth-generation eDrive electric drive technology, enabling a maximum CLTC range of over 900 kilometers. Furthermore, BMW has collaborated with Chinese technology companies to deeply integrate AI large language model capabilities from Alibaba and DeepSeek; incorporated the Huawei HarmonyOS ecosystem to launch digital services such as the BMW Digital Key and HUAWEI HiCar; and partnered with Momenta to jointly develop intelligent driving assistance solutions highly adapted to Chinese road conditions.

The BMW Group stated that the groundbreaking innovations of the new generation will be integrated into all future BMW models, covering multiple drive forms and all market segments. Starting with the new generation BMW iX3, BMW will also launch an unprecedented strong product offensive. By 2027, BMW plans to introduce over 40 new models in the global market. In the Chinese market, BMW plans to launch more than 20 new BMW models in the next two years.
