According to Zigong News, the launching ceremony of the CALB (03931.HK) power battery and energy storage battery Zigong base project was held in the Bancang Industrial Concentration Area of Zigong High-tech Zone, Sichuan on January 23.

Although information on the investment amount and capacity planning of the Zigong base has not been disclosed yet, Battery Network noted that on January 8 this year, Wang Xiaohui, Secretary of the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of the Sichuan Provincial People's Congress, met with Liu Jingyu, Chairman of CALB, in Chengdu.

During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on seizing major strategic opportunities such as the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle, and leveraging Sichuan's resource endowments and industrial foundation. They also discussed fully utilizing CALB's professional advantages in power batteries and energy storage batteries to further increase investment and in Sichuan, accelerate the progress of ongoing and prospective projects, actively promote in-chain industrial development, technological innovation and achievement transformation, and talent cultivation and recruitment, thereby assisting Sichuan in continuously expanding and strengthening its lithium battery industry and better supporting high-quality economic development.

Based on CALB's expansion pace, its actions will significantly accelerate starting in 2026.

On January 4, the Xinhui District People's Government website in Jiangmen City, Guangdong Province, announced that the second phase of the CALB power battery and energy storage system Jiangmen base project successfully passed environmental impact assessment approval and is about to enter the construction phase. The project covers an area of approximately 420,000 square meters and is planned to produce 35GWh of power lithium batteries and energy storage products annually, primarily for new energy vehicles and energy storage system applications.

On January 9th, the Jintan District People's Government of Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province, issued a public notice regarding the proposed approval of the environmental impact assessment file for the "New System Solid Electrolyte Materials and Solid-State Battery Preparation Capacity Improvement Project" by CN Innovation Technology Research Institute (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. The project plans to invest 120 million yuan and, upon completion, will possess an experimental capacity of over tons for all-solid-state electrolytes and a pilot production capacity of 0.2 GWh for solid-state batteries.

On January 10th, the launching ceremony for the first batch of key projects of the Yudongnan High-tech Zone in 2026 was held at the construction site of the CALB Xinyang Base project. The Xinyang Base project has a total investment of 9.63 billion yuan, with a planned area of approximately 607 acres, and will construct a 51GWh power and energy storage battery project. It is scheduled to be put into production in October this year and reach full production by January 2028.

On January 20, the Portuguese Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade (AICEP) held a signing ceremony for an investment contract in Sines. CALB officially signed the agreement to construct a lithium battery factory project with a total investment of 2.067 billion euros. The project received 350 million euros in incentive support from the Portuguese government and is expected to create approximately 1,800 jobs.

On January 22, "Hubei Release" reported that Phase IV of CALB's Wuhan base focuses on the production of power battery PACK (battery pack) systems, with plans to build six intelligent production lines and a designed annual capacity of approximately 400,000 sets. The project, which commenced in July 2024, has now entered the critical stage of equipment installation and commissioning, and is expected to officially start production in 2025.
