Dow Chemical stated that its new Dowsil silicone-based additives are designed to replace fluoropolymer processing aids, which are currently being phased out of the market due to customer demand and regulatory pressures.
The group pointed out that this new material can provide processing companies with a polymer processing additive that meets regulatory requirements without compromising product performance. This additive is supplied in the form of masterbatch and is composed of silicon-based additives and a polyethylene carrier, which can be directly added to existing extrusion production lines through dry or melt blending methods.
Dow Chemical emphasizes that this new processing aid is suitable for a variety of film packaging materials and polymer systems. It not only optimizes film surface smoothness but also reduces die build-up issues. Additionally, the company adds that this masterbatch product complies with EU Regulation 10/2011 and the U.S. FDA (Food and Drug Administration) Regulation 21 CFR 174.5, making it suitable for food contact applications.
