Evantec launches non-fluorinated and polyfluoroalkyl substance barrier additives to reduce solvent permeation in high-density polyethylene

Formulation developers and packaging engineers working with monolayer high-density polyethylene (HDPE) bottles now have access to a PFAS-free solvent barrier solution. The product is directly compatible with conventional extrusion blow molding (EBM) production lines, requiring no equipment modifications.
Low addition ratio, supporting packaging compliance
Product Introduction and Processing Compatibility
Saisa™ solvent barrier technology is a specially developed composite barrier additive for extruded blow-molded HDPE bottles. The product is in the form of solid blend particles and can be directly mixed with HDPE raw materials in conventional extrusion blow molding processes. Evante states that this technology does not require specialized equipment or additional secondary processing steps.
Performance Test Data
Solvent barrier performance: For various reagents such as mineral spirits and toluene, compared with unmodified single-layer HDPE, the product’s extraction-related weight loss is reduced by 2–10×.
Addition ratio: At low blending ratios, it meets the recycling certification requirements of the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) in the United States.
Processing adaptability: Reusable scrap materials; Avient’s laboratory has completed preliminary compatibility testing with five or more solvents.
Applicable market sectors
Personal care packaging: used for body wash, skincare oil, and styling/hair-setting products, preventing label detachment and bottle deformation.
Household cleaner: Contains terpenes and citrus cleaning concentrate, reducing solvent evaporation and weight loss, as well as bottle deformation.
Horticultural chemicals: Fertilizer, herbicide, and pesticide packaging can pass 49 CFR hazardous materials packaging testing.
Car care liquid: effectively blocks mineral spirits and aromatic solvents, suitable for products such as wheel cleaner and engine degreaser.
