PureCycle Obtains European Union (EU) Market Access Qualification, Expands Recycled PP Market

On October 16, Zhuesu Shijie learned that PureCycle announced this week that after obtaining the EU REACH compliance certificate, the company is now able to sell the PureFive series resins to EU customers.

This certificate confirms that the recycled polypropylene material processed and produced by PureCycle meets the stringent regulatory requirements of the European Union regarding human health and environmental protection.

According to the EU REACH regulation, all substances used in product manufacturing that are produced in quantities exceeding 1 ton per year must be registered. These regulations also apply to Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway.

The recycled PP market is set to expand.

Wiebe Schipper, Vice President of Operations for Europe and Asia Pacific at PureCycle, stated, "Obtaining EU REACH certification will help us expand the application of our innovative dissolving recycling technology. We see a demand for our PureFive series resins in the European market, and this certification will allow us to deliver future high-quality recycled polypropylene orders to these potential customers, enabling them to our products before the launch of our European production facility in 2028."

PureCycle plans to build its first European production facility at the Port of Antwerp, Belgium, which is expected to be completed by mid-2028.

PureCycle's flagship dissolution recycling plant, located in Ironton, Ohio, began operations in 2023. The PureFive series resins produced at this facility have been successfully processed into a variety of applications, covering areas such as food packaging, automotive parts, and textiles.

It is reported that the company plans to deploy a total of 1 billion pounds (approximately 454,000 tons) of installed capacity in the United States, Europe, and Asia by 2030.
