Shengxi Aojian Integrates Chemically Recycled Styrene Into Polystyrene (PS), ABS, and SAN Resins

Shengxi Ao announced that it has begun receiving styrene monomer (rSM) for chemical recycling through depolymerization from the new operational recycling plant built in partnership with Indaver.
The factory is located in Antwerp, Belgium. It began production in August 2025, using polystyrene home packaging to recycle styrene monomer (SM).
The mass balance approach can replace fossil-based resins.
The STYRON™ polystyrene resins, MAGNUM™ ABS resins, and TYRIL™ SAN resins from Synthos can be produced using chemically recycled SM based on the principles of mass balance. This means they are comparable to their fossil-based counterparts, including those used for food contact applications.
For STYRON™ polystyrene resin, depolymerization recycling using household packaging waste means taking a step towards circularity. For example, a yogurt cup, if equipped with proper collection and processing infrastructure, can be recycled back into similar dairy product containers.
The resin, like food containers, is suitable for refrigerator liners and parts, as well as food trays made of expanded polystyrene. MAGNUM™ resin is suitable for household items such as toys or furniture, as well as automotive interior and exterior parts, while TYRIL™ SAN resin can be used for personal care products or appliance water tanks.
“We are pleased to announce that we have started receiving recycled styrene monomers from our partner Indaver and are integrating their recycled styrene monomers into our products."Polymer Solutions Vice President Ivan Angelov said."This collaboration aligns with our commitment to sustainable development and enables Trinseo to offer more sustainable advantages to our customers.2Solution.”
PS, ABS, and SAN made from rSM supplement the broader portfolio of sustainable advantage materials offered by Shengxi Ao, including biocompatibility, leachability, and other benefits. Shengxi Ao has established a tool to provide cradle-to-gate product carbon footprint (PCF) information for different grades, enabling the company to share specific information about product CO with stakeholders.2Footprint.
