The north face to adopt bio-based nylon fibers

Bio-based Energy and Materials 2026-06-08 16:48:21

On June 4, Neste announced that it has established a supply chain for nylon fibers using renewable naphtha as raw material in collaboration with Goldwin, Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd., and Toray Industries, Inc. Goldwin plans to use the nylon fibers produced through this project in some The North Face products starting in August 2026.

Neste provides the renewable feedstock Neste RE™, which can be used to produce high-performance renewable nylon fibers and reduce dependence on fossil-based raw materials.

Neste RE™ renewable naphtha is made from bio-based feedstocks such as waste cooking oil and other renewable raw materials. Compared with traditional fossil feedstocks, it is a lower-greenhouse-gas-emissions alternative. Using pure Neste RE™ (i.e., unblended renewable feedstock) can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 85%. Bio-based plastics made from Neste RE™ are of exactly the same quality as plastics made from virgin fossil feedstocks, can be processed into exactly the same products, and can be used in the same applications.

Fossil-based feedstocks (such as naphtha) can be replaced with Neste RE™ without requiring any changes to the infrastructure or processes used in the production of polymers and chemicals; it is a seamless drop-in solution. In building this supply chain, the companies involved leveraged existing facilities and applied the mass balance approach.

This collaboration marks the second time Neste has provided supply chain support for The North Face products, following a similar partnership in July 2024.
