Car Production in Russia Plummets in January 2026, Passenger Cars and Trucks See Double Decline
According to data from the Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation, in January 2026, the country’s passenger car production declined by 13.2% year-on-year to 47,200 units, and dropped sharply by 35.6% month-on-month compared to December 2025. Truck production stood at 5,700 units, down 35.9% year-on-year and plunging 52.1% month-on-month. Production of buses under 5 tons totaled only 321 units, representing a 62.2% year-on-year decline and a 64.8% month-on-month decrease; production of buses over 5 tons amounted to 424 units, down 19.7% year-on-year and 32.6% month-on-month. Internal combustion engine production reached 9,600 units, a 28.8% decline year-on-year and a slight 4% drop month-on-month. All automotive manufacturing indicators exhibited substantial double-digit percentage declines.
