Lenovo Issues Price Hike Notice, Some Computers See Increases Exceeding $1,000
According to informed sources, "Lenovo has issued a price adjustment notice to its channel partners, announcing price increases for certain computer products." The source revealed that signs of this price hike had already appeared in online channels earlier: "Online price adjustments began before March—either through direct increases in listed prices or the removal of previous promotional discounts." He added that the latest price adjustment notice primarily targets the offline retail store network: "We've already received the new price list. Compared to last year, the terminal retail prices of certain computer models have increased by more than RMB 1,000."
However, he added that the student device-purchase subsidy policy remains in effect, so student customers’ device purchase prices have not yet been affected by this current price hike. Regarding the fundamental cause of this price increase, the aforementioned insider relayed Lenovo’s explanation: amid the highly volatile global memory chip market, Lenovo is facing unprecedented challenges. Lenovo anticipates that it will continue to confront significant price-increase risks over the next three to four quarters.
